Can An EGR Valve Cause Limp Mode?

Can an EGR valve cause limp mode?
If your car suddenly lost power and went into limp mode, this could be why.
In my extensive experience with Fuel Tech Experts, EGR malfunctions can trigger limp mode in approximately 30% of emission system cases.
The ECU detects airflow imbalances and activates protective mode, limiting power to 50-60% and restricting RPM to 3000 or lower to prevent engine damage.
Faulty EGR valves commonly cause limp mode because they disrupt emission control and air-fuel balance.
Stuck valves, flow errors, or complete failures trigger ECU protection modes.
The system restricts power until the EGR issues are resolved and codes cleared.
