What is a DPF system?

Ever wondered why your diesel keeps asking for a little extra attention?
Running Fuel Tech Experts, I’ve seen countless drivers puzzled by the Diesel Particulate Filter, or DPF, system.
The DPF is part of your car’s emissions system, designed to catch soot from the exhaust before it hits the air.
It’s crucial for keeping emissions in check.
If your DPF warning light comes on, it’s often a sign that the filter is full and needs a clean or a regeneration.
Follow it a step further, the DPF needs high temperatures to burn off the soot, a process called regeneration.
This usually happens during longer drives when the exhaust is hot enough.
If you miss these conditions, soot builds up, and you might see that pesky warning light.
Have you had your DPF light come on?
Let me know how you dealt with it.
