When were DPF filters introduced/mandatory?
Over the years I’ve been in this industry, I’ve seen firsthand how they’ve shifted the landscape since they became mandatory for new diesel vehicles in Europe in 2009.
DPFs were introduced to reduce soot emissions and have been mandatory on diesel cars in Europe since 2009.
They trap soot particles in the exhaust, and under the right conditions, the captured soot is burned off during regeneration.
The reason regeneration is crucial is that it prevents the DPF from becoming clogged.
This process requires high exhaust temperatures, which can be a challenge with modern driving patterns that often involve short, stop-start journeys.
If you’ve had any bad experiences with DPFs or have questions, feel free to share.
