Difference between Oilsyn Diesel Power/Race DNA, Oilsyn Hybrogen and Archoil AR6900-D

by Andy Published on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022

Fuel additive science is not definite. There are too many influencing factors and different requirements to produce the “ultimate additive” that universally works for all. What may work well on one engine does not guarantee success on another. This presents the need for different technologies to help match successful functions to the engine, fuel, and user requirements.

This is also why it becomes difficult to recommend the best fuel conditioner for you and why Oilsyn and Archoil usually offer sample sizes of their most popular products so you can test and decide which works best for you and your vehicle.

Take Archoil AR6900-D or Oilsyn Diesel Power DNA as examples. They deliver a multitude of functions that include fuel stabilization, anti-foaming, cleaning (via detergents), lubricity (via a lubricant), cetane improver, and combustion improvement (via a combustion catalyst). These are all delivered chemically to the fuel, and obtaining a balance of functions becomes more of an art form than science because the functions can compete against one another.

Too much lubricity can reduce cleaning performance; too much detergent can reduce combustion catalyst performance; too much cetane improver can negate MPG gains being delivered by the combustion catalyst, and it goes on and on. When you consider that fuels vary in lubricity, cetane number, and detergent performance and combine this with the fact that engines respond differently to each of the functions mentioned above, it is no wonder it is impossible to achieve a 100% success rate with additive use. However, Oilsyn can get closer to it than most by offering a range of technologies that provide different functions or deliver similar functions differently.  In contrast, most competitor products are simply cetane improvers with a cheap mono-acid lubricant.  This includes many of the popular brands.

This is where Oilsyn Diesel Race DNA enters the arena.  It delivers even more cetane, arguably the best-performing lubricant on the market right now, and a combustion catalyst.  It has low cleaning performance because that robs the engine of power.  Diesel Race DNA cannot be beaten for the ultimate performance and lubricity.  The difference can be night and day when using this.

Oilsyn Hybrogen is helpful for maximum MPG and lowest emissions or with engines that don’t respond well to higher cetane diesel.  Hybrogen is essentially an aggressive combustion modifier. It helps clean naturally through cleaner combustion gases. It improves combustion quality by manipulating the fuel rather than “treating” it.

From testing, we know that some customers prefer Diesel Race DNA, some Diesel Power DNA, some Archoil AR6900-D, and others Hybrogen. Most notice the greatest difference when using Diesel Power or Race DNA simply due to the lubricant that is not found in any other diesel additive.

Quick summary of each product:

Oilsyn Diesel Race DNA – Designed for maximum performance and lubricity.  Outstanding cetane improver, lubricant, and combustion improver. It is much better on engines that respond well to additional cetane and where the customer wants maximum performance and protection.

Archoil AR6900-D MAX – Designed for all-around performance and protection.  Good lubricant, stabilizer and cleaner, great cetane improver, and combustion improver. Often better on engines that respond well to additional cetane.

Oilsyn Diesel Power DNA – Designed for all-around performance and protection.  Outstanding lubricant and cleaner, great cetane improver, and combustion improver. Often better on engines that respond well to additional cetane or where there is a requirement to reduce diesel clatter.

Oilsyn Hybrogen Road – Designed for maximum MPG and lowest emissions.  Excellent combustion modifier with natural cleaning. Often works where MPG and power increase results have been less than expected with products that raise cetane.

Please note this is an approximate guide, and we are always available to advise further. However, we strongly recommend that customers test to see what works best for them.

    Hola Andy,
Muchas gracias.

Good news! I would following up with Oilsyn Diesel Power DNA or Archoil AR6900-D. Both contain cetane improver, ester lubricant, detergent and performance/DPF cleaning catalyst. The detergent in Diesel Power DNA is stronger and it contains more advanced ester lubrication.

Hi.I had a 1 liter Oilsyn Diesel Race DNA half full, I also had about 250 ml of Archoil AR6900 D-Max left, so I decided to experiment and mixed 500 ml of RACE DNA with 250 ml of Archoil AR6900 D-Max for a little additional cleaning, dose 1 ml / liter in a 1.9 TDI P.D Stage 2 and Premium Diesel. Is this crazy of me? Could it damage the injection system? So far I like the result. I had also thought about adding another 250 ml of Diesel Power DNA for a polyetheramine supplement, and thus benefit from the best of the 3 products, would it be viable? Or better everything separately and try it one by one? Greetings.

As long as you don’t overdose, it should be fine. The ester lubricants are significantly different between the products, but in theory, they could complement each other.

Those products use different ester lubricants and using them together has not been tested. The detergent dosage won’t be an issue but the combustion/DPF cleaning catalyst might be. This is because the Race DNA already contains a good amount. Alternate them first and let me know how they perform for you.

    Hi Andy.
I’m using the AR6900-D and I think it’s working well so far. I haven’t noticed anything in fuel economy, but I have noticed something in the sound and starting, so it works.
I’m currently in Spain and using Repsol Gas-Oil, which here they call “Normal” and then there’s the “Premium” which is a bit more expensive. The first has a cetane index of 51 and the Premium has 55.
Would it be more noticeable, in everything, to use the Premium with the AR6900-D or on the contrary, when using it with the normal diesel, is it as if I were already using the Premium? Or even better?
I’m going to finish the AR6900-D soon and I’m going to move on to the one you mentioned to me a few months ago, I’ll use the Oilsyn Diesel Power DNA. I hope it works even better.
Greetings and thank you very much.

Hi, either product will still work well with premium diesel. However, you may only need half the recommend dosage. Or, just use with regular diesel as that is what it is designed to do. Oilsyn Diesel Power DNA has stronger detergent and a very different ester lubricant, that many customers prefer.

Diesel Power DNA is better because it has a stronger detergent with PEA and a very high performing ester lubricant.

Hello Abdy. In my Civic diesel 1700cc and 100CV Isuzu engine from 2005, I already mentioned that, according to your comments, I am using the AR6900-D and when I finish it I will switch to the Oilsyn Diesel Power DNA,
When I started I made the stipulated 50 ml. For my tank it is 50 Liters, but I think there would be…about 5 Liters left, here it is a bit low, but I didn’t know exactly what there was.
Now each time it is done it is usually between 42 and 44 liters. But I have no way to adjust that much. Totally I’m making 50 ml. since what remains already has the AR6900.
Is this good, is it bad or do I not care about it?
    Thank you for your comments

Hi, Diesel Power first Diesel Race, then Hybrogen. I am unable to comment on that product but I can say that the Diesel Power/Race contains 100% active ingredients with no fillers or cheap solvents. They also use ester lubrication and both contain a combustion catalyst. Hybrogen is a dedicated combustion modifier so different product entirely.

Engine wise, it’s a 2.0L N20, so a 4 cylinder DOHC, with twin-scroll turbocharger, double-VANOS (variable valve timing), Valvetronic (variable valve lift) and direct injection.

I’m confused as to whether: Petrol Power DNA, Hybrogen Road, or AR6900-P Max, is likely to suit this car best.

I don’t tend to buy the higher octane / premium fuels.

Hi, For a 2011 Porsche 3.4L Gen2 with the MA1.21 engine I was looking at using the AR6900-P as it only does 2000 miles per year. However, I already use mostly Tesco Momentum or Shell V-Power premium fuels as the car is specced for 98RON and these fuels already have a detergent package added. Would AR6900-P make sense here or is the premium fuel sufficient on its own?
Also, I have 2 Diesels used as daily drivers, a Euro5 and a Euro6 so was thinking maybe AR6900-D for them as we’d hope to improve MPG. Would this be the right choice here too or should I try Hybrogen for both the petrol and diesels? Thanks, Nick

Hi, I would use Hybrogen in the Porsche but do not exceed the recommended dosage. This is what I use in my M5 with V-Power. I am also using a next generation “super” lubricant in with the fuel, which is amazing. This will be released sometime in summer. With the diesels use Oilsyn Diesel Race DNA or Archoil AR6900-D with standard diesel fuel. Guaranteed you will notice a difference especially with the new ester based lubricant.

I already use Millers NanoDrive CFS 5w40 NT+ in the Porsche as in a NA engine efficiency is where it’s at, but I have not done anything with the (manual) gearbox oil, it is just standard which I’m guessing is probably Mobil. Do you believe a friction modifier add-in or even a drain and refresh with something like Millers NanoDrive CRX NT+ would be worthwhile?

Not recommended due to the excess cetane improver and a waste of Money. Premium diesel fuels are standard diesel fuels with more 2-EHN cetane improver, detergent and possibly lubricant, depending on brand. AR6900-D MAX is the same pure 2-EHN cetane booster, high strength detergent pack, the best ester based diesel fuel lubricant money can buy and combustion improver. Add AR6900-D to standard fuel to TURN IT INTO premium diesel that will rival any other diesel fuel.

They cannot be combined and absolutely no need to add it with AR6900-D.

    Hi.
    I have a 2009 BMW N57 engined 330D.
I currently use AR6900 and achieve noticeable results, especially around town.
Is the N57 one of those engines likely to see more benefit from using Hybrogen?
Or does it get best use from AR6900?
    Thanks
    Ian

Continue with AR6900-D if you are getting results as it means that engine is responding well to the additional cetane and ester lubricant.

I have used 2-ehn (and having now read your posts, embarrassingly I’ve used 2T oil simultaneously) for a couple of years in my 2007 400hp+ 3.0d bmw and have discovered your products recently. So I have bought Ar6850 and hybrogen additives to try. Im very much looking forward to this and seeing what benefits I notice.

Finding detailed technical information on the hybrogen is fairly difficult, having worked in vehicle upgrade and repair for many years And being a right bookworm, I’m really interested in how it works and interacts with the fuel. Is there anyway of getting more Information other than the normal info online?

    Thanks 🙂

It is difficult to get into too much detail without revealing proprietary information. Chemically Hybrogen is creating a colloidal SOL within the fuel structure. This produces a more homogeneous mix and thus a cleaner burn.

Hi I’ve read your article about how you can use hybrogen and AR 6850 together but they must be added separately why is this? Because soon as you put both in the fuel tank they will mix together what I did is mix the required amounts in a small bottle mix and then add them to the tank is this ok .

It is dependent on the solubility level. In order to correctly mix Hybrogen with any fuel or similar carbon base the base needs to be at least 500 times the weight of the Hybrogen. Therefore 50ml of Hybrogen is easily soluble in 50 litres of fuel but not another additive.

Hello, I’ve been using 6400 and 6900-D for several months now and the results are FANTASTIC (on 4.2tdi VW Touareg 400hp)! But I want to try the suggested mix of Hybrogen and AR 6850. However I’m not sure I understood correctly your answer for using Hybrogen and AR 6850 in the same tank. Can you please confirm we can add Hybrogen, then AR 6850 and then top up the fuel ? Is it safe to do this and if not – then how do you recommend to add them ?

Yes, they can be added to the same tank but only with standard diesel fuel (not V-power or similar) and don’t use too much AR6850. Absolute maximum 1:1,000.

For that engine, AR6900-P MAX at 1/2 dose or AR6200.

Can Hybrogen be combined with AR6900-P, or is there another Archoil product for petrol engines, which can be combined with Hybrogen ?

In a petrol engine I wouldn’t combine Hybrogen with any other additive.

Have recently purchased a 2017 Jaguar XE (240hp) AWD model. The premium quality fuels that handbook recommends are expensive, so could you recommend which of your additives i should use in conjunction with a regular quality fuel which would give me similar (or better) results.

Diesel? If so, AR6900-D MAX turns standard diesel into a Super diesel fuel. Higher cetane, lubricity, detergent etc.

Have a Super Charged Hellcat 6.2 Hemi and have been using Archoil 6200. CA fuel is 91 octane with 10% ethanol. Just looking to keep fuel system well protected and combustion as effientc as possible. Would my application benefit from Hybrogen Road vs Archoil 6200? Or would I have to test to see? Appreciate any insights you might have. Thanks and enjoy your info.

Hybrogen will deliver more torque and MPG. However, AR62000 will likely provide more protection.

        Hi Andy,

I have a 2017 BMW 530d and use 6900dmax. I see that Oilsyn have 2 products of interest. Diesel Race DNA & Hybrigen Road. Which product has the best all round benefit to the engine in terms of lubricity, cleaning and enhancing performance.

If I had to pick one, what would you recommend.

        Thanks

        Derek

Hybrogen is a pure combustion modifier and ideal for diesel engines that don’t respond well to additional cetane. It is designed for maximum fuel savings and lowest emissions output. Diesel Race DNA is designed for maximum performance and will provide the best lubrication and performance increase of any diesel additive on the market right now. Archoil AR6900-D MAX is best for ongoing cleaning. I use Diesel Race DNA in our family diesel.

Hi, ive got a ford focus 1.0 ecoboost which additive would you recommend for mpg ive just purchased 6900 p-max is this the best choice for mpg or is 6200/hybrogen better for mpg? Ive noticed theres some new oilsyn additives are they better than the archoil equivalents? Im considering purchasing archoil 6400 aswell for a deep clean so is any of the new oilsyn products better than 6400 for cleaning?

For MPG on that engine – Hybrogen. Start with half a bottle of Oilsyn Petrol Dr, then use Hybrogen. Use the other half of Petrol Dr after 5-6 tanks.

When using products like AR6900-d and Hybrogen what driving style should I adopt? I typically have a 100 mile round trip to work (mostly motorways) so should I aim for high gear low revs or low gear higher revs to get the best cleaning performance from the products?

With fuel system cleaning it doesn’t matter so drive normally. Higher revs on occasion will help with post combustion area cleaning such as with the Turbo, Cat, DPF etc.

I have tried the hybrogen road in my diesel car and i am impressed with the result.
What is not clear is the dosage limits and whether higher dosage can be tried for better effect or whether it can be harmful.
Eg i put a dose of 25ml in a 65litre tank which gives a ratio of 2.6:1 rather than the specified 3:1. It is also not easy to get an accurate dosage as the amonut being put in is small.
Guidance on dosage limits and their affect would be very helpful.

Hybrogen is quite strict on dosage. I Think you mean 2,600:1? That will be fine but I definitely would not use any more as it will bring the diesel out of EN-590 spec.
