Difference between Hybrogen and AR6900-D

by Andy Published on Thursday, March 21st, 2019

Fuel additive science is not definite. There are too many influencing factors and differing requirements to be able to produce the “ultimate additive” that universally works for all. What may work well on one engine does not guarantee success on another. This presents the need for different technologies to help match successful functions to that of the engine, fuel and requirements of the user.

This is also why it becomes difficult to recommend the best fuel conditioner for you and also why we supply sample sizes of our most popular products so that you can test and decide which works best for you and your vehicle.

Take Archoil AR6900-D as an example. It delivers a multitude of functions that include fuel stabilisation, anti-foaming, cleaning (via detergents), lubricity (via a lubricant), cetane improver and combustion improvement (via a combustion catalyst). These are all delivered chemically to the fuel and obtaining a balance of functions becomes more of an art form than science because the functions can compete against one another.

Too much lubricity can reduce cleaning performance; too much detergent can reduce combustion catalyst performance; too much cetane improver can negate MPG gains being delivered by the combustion catalyst; and it goes on and on. When you consider that fuels vary in lubricity, cetane # and detergent performance and combine this with the fact that engines responds differently to each of the aforementioned functions it is no wonder it is impossible to achieve a 100% success rate with additive use. However, we can get closer to it than most by offering a range of technologies that offer different functions or deliver similar functions but in a different way.

This is where Oilsyn Hybrogen enters the arena. Hybrogen is essentially an aggressive dispersant and combustion modifier. It helps clean but through the use of cleaner combustion gases and by reducing surface tension in the fuel system. There is no active detergent. This surface tension reduction also improves lubricity yet there is no active lubricant. It improves combustion quality by manipulating the fuel rather than “treating” it.

We know from testing that some customers prefer AR6900-D, whereas others prefer Hybrogen and some the original AR6200. Many customers have discovered a fantastic combination of a cetane booster and lubricant such as AR6850 and Hybrogen combined. This is a safe combination to use by the way as long as they are added separately. However, AR6900-D or AR6200 cannot be combined with Hybrogen.

Quick summary of each product and possible product combinations:
Archoil AR6200-EU – Good fuel stabilisation and preserving fuel for long time storage, good lubricant, gentle cleaner and combustion modifier.

Archoil AR6900-D MAX – good lubricant, stabiliser and cleaner, great cetane improver and combustion improver. Often better on engines that respond well to additional cetane.

Oilsyn Hybrogen Road – Great dispersant and combustion modifier with gentle secondary cleaning and lubrication. Often works where MPG and/or power increase results have been less than expected with AR6900-D MAX.

Oilsyn Hybrogen Road + AR6850 – Fantastic combustion improver and lubricant. Works great on engines that respond well to the Hybrogen combustion modifier and additional cetane.

Please note this is an approximate guide and we are always available to advise further. However, we strongly recommend customers test a sample bottle of AR6900-D and Hybrogen and decide which works best for you.

Hi, For a 2011 Porsche 3.4L Gen2 with the MA1.21 engine I was looking at using the AR6900-P as it only does 2000 miles per year. However, I already use mostly Tesco Momentum or Shell V-Power premium fuels as the car is specced for 98RON and these fuels already have a detergent package added. Would AR6900-P make sense here or is the premium fuel sufficient on its own?
Also, I have 2 Diesels used as daily drivers, a Euro5 and a Euro6 so was thinking maybe AR6900-D for them as we’d hope to improve MPG. Would this be the right choice here too or should I try Hybrogen for both the petrol and diesels? Thanks, Nick

Hi, I would used Hybrogen in the Porsche but do not exceed the recommended dosage. This is what I use in my M5 with V-Power. I am also using a next generation “super” lubricant in with the fuel, which is amazing. This will be released sometime in summer. With the diesels use AR6900-D with standard diesel fuel. Guaranteed you will notice a difference especially with the new ester based lubricant.

Thanks very much for the prompt reply and advice. 🙂
I will give your recommendations a try and see how I get on. Looking forward to seeing the new development!
I already use Millers NanoDrive CFS 5w40 NT+ in the Porsche as in a NA engine efficiency is where it’s at, but I have not done anything with the (manual) gearbox oil, it is just standard which I’m guessing is probably Mobil. Do you believe a friction modifier add-in or even a drain and refresh with something like Millers NanoDrive CRX NT+ would be worthwhile?

Not recommended due to the excess cetane improver and a waste of Money. Premium diesel fuels are standard diesel fuels with more 2-EHN cetane improver, detergent and possibly lubricant, depending on brand. AR6900-D MAX is the same pure 2-EHN cetane booster, high strength detergent pack, the best ester based diesel fuel lubricant money can buy and combustion improver. Add AR6900-D to standard fuel to TURN IT INTO premium diesel that will rival any other diesel fuel.

They cannot be combined and absolutely no need to add it with AR6900-D.

    Hi.
    I have a 2009 BMW N57 engined 330D.
I currently use AR6900 and achieve noticeable results, especially around town.
Is the N57 one of those engines likely to see more benefit from using Hybrogen?
Or does it get best use from AR6900?
    Thanks
    Ian

Continue with AR6900-D if you are getting results as it means that engine is responding well to the additional cetane and ester lubricant.

I have used 2-ehn (and having now read your posts, embarrassingly I’ve used 2T oil simultaneously) for a couple of years in my 2007 400hp+ 3.0d bmw and have discovered your products recently. So I have bought Ar6850 and hybrogen additives to try. Im very much looking forward to this and seeing what benefits I notice.

Finding detailed technical information on the hybrogen is fairly difficult, having worked in vehicle upgrade and repair for many years And being a right bookworm, I’m really interested in how it works and interacts with the fuel. Is there anyway of getting more Information other than the normal info online?

    Thanks 🙂

It is difficult to get into too much detail without revealing proprietary information. Chemically Hybrogen is creating a colloidal SOL within the fuel structure. This produces a more homogeneous mix and thus a cleaner burn.

Hi I’ve read your article about how you can use hybrogen and AR 6850 together but they must be added separately why is this? Because soon as you put both in the fuel tank they will mix together what I did is mix the required amounts in a small bottle mix and then add them to the tank is this ok .

It is dependent on the solubility level. In order to correctly mix Hybrogen with any fuel or similar carbon base the base needs to be at least 500 times the weight of the Hybrogen. Therefore 50ml of Hybrogen is easily soluble in 50 litres of fuel but not another additive.

Hello, I’ve been using 6400 and 6900-D for several months now and the results are FANTASTIC (on 4.2tdi VW Touareg 400hp)! But I want to try the suggested mix of Hybrogen and AR 6850. However I’m not sure I understood correctly your answer for using Hybrogen and AR 6850 in the same tank. Can you please confirm we can add Hybrogen, then AR 6850 and then top up the fuel ? Is it safe to do this and if not – then how do you recommend to add them ?

Yes, they can be added to the same tank but only with standard diesel fuel (not V-power or similar) and don’t use too much AR6850. Absolute maximum 1:1,000.

Have recently purchased a 2017 Jaguar XE (240hp) AWD model. The premium quality fuels that handbook recommends are expensive, so could you recommend which of your additives i should use in conjunction with a regular quality fuel which would give me similar (or better) results.

Diesel? If so, AR6900-D MAX turns standard diesel into a Super diesel fuel. Higher cetane, lubricity, detergent etc.

Have a Super Charged Hellcat 6.2 Hemi and have been using Archoil 6200. CA fuel is 91 octane with 10% ethanol. Just looking to keep fuel system well protected and combustion as effientc as possible. Would my application benefit from Hybrogen Road vs Archoil 6200? Or would I have to test to see? Appreciate any insights you might have. Thanks and enjoy your info.

Hybrogen will deliver more torque and MPG. However, AR62000 will likely provide more protection.

When using products like AR6900-d and Hybrogen what driving style should I adopt? I typically have a 100 mile round trip to work (mostly motorways) so should I aim for high gear low revs or low gear higher revs to get the best cleaning performance from the products?

With fuel system cleaning it doesn’t matter so drive normally. Higher revs on occasion will help with post combustion area cleaning such as with the Turbo, Cat, DPF etc.

I have tried the hybrogen road in my diesel car and i am impressed with the result.
What is not clear is the dosage limits and whether higher dosage can be tried for better effect or whether it can be harmful.
Eg i put a dose of 25ml in a 65litre tank which gives a ratio of 2.6:1 rather than the specified 3:1. It is also not easy to get an accurate dosage as the amonut being put in is small.
Guidance on dosage limits and their affect would be very helpful.

Hybrogen is quite strict on dosage. I Think you mean 2,600:1? That will be fine but I definitely would not use any more as it will bring the diesel out of EN-590 spec.
